Our dance piece was inspired by motion houses "Perfect" and used the stimuli of time. We incorporated the Contemporary dance style in our piece. This dance style includes fluid movements and the use of the floor. We used the idea of a hand manipulating which is used during "Perfect". The inspiration led to us creating a piece with the emotions of panic and nervousness.
I think that I felt most confident in the solos as I had created mine and also the section before this. This is because of the repeated movements from other motifs in the piece and doing it in a group. One of my strengths was my fluidity as the piece flowed well and the fluid movements helped this. The piece flowing was essential as when a piece is flowing well it looks better due to the pace of it. I think I also performed the floor phrases well and improved on these during rehearsals as at the beginning I was not confident with the floor phrase but in the piece, i think it went well.
In terms of improvements, I think I needed to improve on the beginning section as I think we were out of time with each other in the performance. This could have been because, in the beginning, we did our panic phrase and then Leah's which were always done quicker than we were doing it. And also we didn't know it that well to be doing it at the speed Leah was doing it. In addition, I think another area of improvement was the end as I don't think we did it in unison which was the aim of that section. I think the walking worked at different speeds but we needed to get the movement in unison as when not it didn't look great. I think we could have had more syncronisation in the piece which would have improved our timing in for the piece.
I faced a few challenges when rehearsing as I first struggled with the floor sections and my solo but I think I did it the best I could. Also, I forgot my solo a few times so had to relearn it to have a full solo. Another was that I am not too flexible so on certain sections I struggled to fully extend and perform the moves to the best of my ability. I suggested some ideas in the process and some of these were used in our final piece or adapted and put in our piece. Performing as a group was good, we communicated well and bounced off each other well to communicate to the audience the emotions in the piece. My process of creating went well when doing my solo and my travelling across the space before we went into our solos. I decided that i wanted to do one of the floor things (2:47 on the video) to travel in two directions and add some diversity in that section. In my solo I chose to incorporate levels to create a solo that was of the correct length to fit the time we had for my groups solos.
In terms of leadership, I think that I lead the group in certain sections for timing but this wasn't followed at times because we knew what was coming after each section of the dance. So we knew the timing pretty well. I think that as a hole we worked well as a group to complete the dance because of our knowledge of the dance and how to execute sections like the floor section or the panic phrases. I tended in this performance to be a follower most of the time, being a leader at times. We struggled to come up with ideas as most of us weren't prominently dancers but some of us had some knowledge of some dance steps/genres. Being near the front of the travelling phrase meant i was one of the people leading the timing for when we were doing the movements.
When looking at the start of the project I feel that I have progressed in Floorwork as I wasn't confident with it at the beginning of the project but now I am. Also in leadership skills, as I now feel that I could teach something to the class and explain it so it is understood. In terms of teamwork, having gotten to know each other means we can work better as a team and play at everyone's strengths and help with their weaknesses. I think I am now generally more confident in dance and know how to do certain techniques better than before this project. I feel that i have improved quite a bit since the start of the project in terms of relatonships with others, confidence and general knowledge of the dance style.
